About the Author

Prof. Puran Singh (1881-1931) is known to have had an imagination that could create multiple universes from our one universe. His works flow with the force of divine joy transformed into the sound of waves of a turbulent stream of water. A lover intoxicated with the spirit of love for all creation, we see him sometimes lying of soft grass, encircling tress with his arms, caressing with tears the necks of animal, and crying with delight at the beauty of the open sky and the moon. His body and spirit are one, closely connected with existence everywhere.

                                                                                                -Nilambri Ghai

an anecdote is not mere fact or data, his [Puran Singh’s] interpretation thoroughly realizes that every moment is perfect or complete, fully aware of its particularity in universality. Hence, a fact with its particularity has its own universality. So the anecdote has the potential to hold the simultaneity of the horizontal and vertical expositions of time and space, and is thus very different from the common knowledge structure, that even in their most refined forms are unable to free themselves from psychological or subjective biases. An anecdote for Puran Singh is therefore far, more than a mere ‘factual’ understanding of any event in which the divine and miraculous experience of the ‘fact’ is lost, and where the fact is reduced to a mere ‘fact,’ sans life.
